Digitally printed envelopes in a nutshell

Pillarbox Envelopes has the latest technology in envelope printing and we know how to use it, delivering eye catching imagery on your printed envelopes.

Those who use printed envelopes can be confused by the term ‘Digital Printing’ and are often unaware of its benefits, so we thought we would summarise what it is and the effect it can have on your printed envelopes.

Digital printing is the printing of a digital-based image directly onto a variety of media. Pillarbox Envelopes has the latest technology in envelope printing and we know how to use it, delivering eye catching imagery on your printed envelopes.

Your digital design, such as your logo and key messages, are transferred onto our envelopes and then printed using quality volume inkjet printers.

What are the benefits?

Initially, digital printing appears to have a higher cost per envelope than more traditional printing methods such as litho. However, digital printing cuts out the technical steps required to make the traditional printing plates, so the price is offset by this saving.

By employing digital envelope printing, Pillarbox can show off with our on-demand printing and short turnaround times.

Any modifications that are needed to the initial image are carried out by our experienced in house design team, who can create eye catching layouts on your printed envelopes.

What is the digital printing process?

Essentially, your journey to a high quality digitally printed envelope starts with a discussion with our sales team. They will talk over your requirements in more detail before passing on your specification to our studio team, who provide an electronic design proof.

Once approved, the digital file is sent to our print department, where our dedicated printing team will then put the design to paper. After this there are a series of quality checks, which are reviewed and completed by our printers and operations manager.

Once we are confident that the printed envelope meets our high standards, it is then well packaged and shipped off to our customer.

What does the future hold?

The savings in labour and the ever-increasing capability of digital presses means that digital printing is on the rise. It is already reaching the point where it can supersede offset printing technology’s ability to produce larger print runs at a low price.
